We use the book Armadillo Ray to learn about and understand patterns . Then we create our own pattern armadillo in our own patterned background. I do use an Armadillo template to focus us on our patterns.
1st graders are learning to make secondary colors. One of the few times we learn a skill in isolation, color theory holds it own in active engagement and retention of information. I try not teach any skill in isolation it separates out the application from knowledge, which really doesn't help our students learn. 5th graders are considering their future selves in our work this week. We have a sprint cup driver and two hair dressers ( best friends, who share more than just an idea). We have many other interesting ideas as well. 6th graders are nearing completion of our non traditional portraits. Students identified characteristics that make them themselves and used those characteristics to create these unique portraits. |
